Glazed & Amused

Small, sweet discoveries

Independent donut shops. Local favorites. The kind of counter where somebody remembers your order.

Craig, your Donut Scout

I drive around, eat a crazy amount of fried dough, and write about why these shops deserve to be famous. Doughie rides shotgun and insists we're visiting relatives.

My favorite kind of place has one location, a family name on the sign, and a fryer going before sunrise. I'd rather drive two hours for a perfect filled maple long john than five minutes for a convenient one.

Every shop here is a small, self-run operation. I check the facts before a listing goes up, say plainly where a story came from, and leave a blank rather than guess. Nothing a visitor or an owner sends in publishes by itself — it all lands on my desk first.

Love the directory? Tell Craig.

Not a shop review, just a note to the guy doing the driving. He reads every one.

What we list — and what we can't

Why some wonderful shops get written about instead of listed.
