Founded in April 1959 by World War II veteran Stanford 'Stan' Wittmayer and his wife Tina, who bought an existing donut shop on Homestead Road in Santa Clara after Stan learned the trade at a shop in Sunnyvale. All nine of their children worked there growing up, and since their parents' deaths in 2011 several of them, led by youngest daughter Julie Clark, have kept the single shop running much as it always looked, with longtime head baker Jesus Lopez made a partner in 2018.
