Sandy Ostlund opened the shop in West Fargo in September 1983 at age 52 after losing his job, frying his mother's buttermilk recipe, and the business has passed through three generations: his son Mark and, since October 2022, grandson Jeff Ostlund. It now runs three shops in West Fargo and Fargo plus a wholesale delivery route, and boxes up each location's leftover donuts at closing for shelters, food banks and nonprofits.
