The Spudnut Shop opened in Richland in 1948, originally at the Richland Wye before moving to the Uptown Shopping Center around 1950. It was founded by Barlow Ghirardo and Jerry Bell and run for more than 50 years by Ghirardo's daughter Val Driver. In 2023 Driver sold the business to Richland natives Mike Bishop and Ryan Pierson, who opened additional shops in Kennewick (October 2024) and Pasco (Court Street, November 2024; Chapel Hill Boulevard, early 2025).
Open since 1948
Owned by Mike Bishop and Ryan Pierson since 2023 (Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business, April 2023; Tri-City Herald via AOL; Apple Valley News Now, March 2025). The name derives from the defunct mid-century Spudnut franchise chain, but the Richland shop is an independent survivor with no current franchisor.
