Emma Slater started Twisted Halo in September 2021, frying doughnuts to order from a rented kitchen at Champion Comics and Coffee in Williston and at farmers markets. After the Williston arrangement ended she moved the business to Waitsfield in late summer 2024, opening a cafe at 40 Bridge Street, and in July 2026 added a doughnut-and-espresso counter at the Barns at Lang Farm in Essex.
