“It was a big deal when Astro Donuts opened up in downtown Washington more than a dozen years or so ago now. Their donuts were spectacular, still are. They were quickly became known for donuts like their creme brûlée or their peanut butter and jelly, maple bacon, things that other shops are doing these days, but they were an early pioneer. I was working a lot downtown at the time and leading workshop sessions for various nonprofit organizations and government clients. I quickly became known as the "donut facilitator guy" because I would get downtown early, pick up a couple dozen donuts, and bring them to the start of the workshop. People were very appreciative. Their donuts have remained really good. Their fried chicken now is awesome as well. If you're in DC for a special week or weekend or holiday time, see what they've got going on. They often do special mini donuts for the cherry blossom festival or the start of baseball season. They did cool decorated donuts for the World Cup, so be sure to check their ever-changing menu. They've got a couple locations now too, which is great.”
