Gene Forgatch opened Dixie Cream Donuts in 1955 at 510 W. Main Street in West Frankfort, in his grandmother's old grocery store building. After his death his widow, Sue Forgatch, kept the shop going and in August 2018 opened a second shop in Herrin, fulfilling a request Gene had made before he died.
