Opened in the 1980s by a former Winchell's baker who named it for his wife, Simone, the shop has had three owners. Kong Eap, a Cambodian refugee who arrived in the US in 1980 and already ran Seaside Donuts Bakery in Newport Beach, was a regular customer who bought it in 2003; his daughter Melissa Eap now manages the 24-hour Long Beach shop, which Yelp ranked ninth in its 2023 Top 100 US donut shops.
