Angelo 'Bangy' Gencarelli Jr. founded Bess Eaton Donut Flour Company on Oak Street in Westerly in 1952; it grew to 42 stores before a 2004 bankruptcy and sale to Tim Hortons, which shut the stores by 2010. In 2011 former employees led by David Liguori bought the trademark and reopened with the original recipes; after the Wakefield (2024) and Pawcatuck (April 2026) closures, the Westerly shop is the last one.
Open since 1952
Independently owned revival run by David Liguori (with former employees Don Hassel, Robin Busch and Mary Duggan Haverly at the 2011 relaunch), per the Westerly Sun. Not the original corporate chain.
