Known for: Fresh strawberry donut (spring); fresh peach (mid-July to August)

Glendora, CA · Los Angeles, CA
Jim and Miyoko Nakano opened the shop on Route 66 in Glendora in May 1972 as a Foster's Donuts franchise, went independent in the mid-1980s and renamed it after a child pointed at Jim and said 'Look, it's the donut man!' A local farmer's bumper strawberry crop led Jim to develop the shop's signature: a split glazed donut packed with whole fresh strawberries. After nearly five decades in Glendora, a second counter opened at downtown L.A.'s Grand Central Market in June 2020.
Open since 1972
Owned and operated by founders Jim and Miyoko Nakano, per Time Out Los Angeles and Rafu Shimpo (June 2020); the original Foster's franchise tie ended in the mid-1980s and there is no current franchising.
