Dutch Girl Donuts

Known for: Bavarian cream, cinnamon roll-style donuts, red velvet donut holes

2 locations

John and Cecilia Timmer opened the shop on Woodward Avenue in 1947, and it stayed in the family until it closed in 2021 after the death of longtime owner Gene Timmer. Detroit businessman Paddy Lynch bought the building and business, kept the recipes, brought back founders' grandson Jon Timmer to make the donuts, and reopened it in May 2024. A second location on East Grand Boulevard in the North End was announced in February 2026 and previewed that June.

Open since 1947

Independently owned by Paddy Lynch (Lynch & Sons funeral homes, The Schvitz), who bought it after the 2021 closure, per Hour Detroit, Deadline Detroit and Metro Times.
