Donut Squad opened on June 2, 2017 (National Donut Day) at 2264 N. Prospect Ave. on Milwaukee's East Side, founded by Franklin natives and UW-Milwaukee students Barakat "Bobby" Kaid and Moe Dakwar. The pair wanted to make "funky, wild doughnuts with a bunch of toppings" in the former Suburpia sandwich shop space. A second shop opened at 308 W. Broadway in downtown Waukesha in 2019 and reopened after a refresh on April 2, 2026.
