Chef Jonathan Fox (La Madia) announced Firecakes in 2012 and opened it in a former River North barber shop in 2013, building the menu on a family heirloom recipe from the early 1900s. Its Tahitian vanilla donut won Judges' Choice at Chicago Donut Fest in 2015 and 2018.
