The Oak Bluffs bakery dates to 1948, when it opened as Walmsley's Bakery; it became Old Stone Bakery under the White family in 1971, and the habit of selling hot donuts and apple fritters out the back door at night grew from there. Janice Casey and Rita Brown ran it as Martha's Vineyard Gourmet Cafe & Bakery from 2001 until selling in 2018. It operates seasonally, roughly April through October.
Open since 1948
Sold in 2018 to a company owned by Boston seasonal residents Richard Friedman, David Ginsberg and Patrick Lyons; Boston Magazine (2023) describes it as run by Lyons's hospitality company, the Lyons Group.
