Denny Marquardt started making potato-flour doughnuts as a teenager at Fred's Spudnuts in Bloomington, bought the shop and renamed it Denny's Doughnuts in April 1974. After his death in 2011 his wife Barb and their four sons kept it running; it marked 50 years in 2024.
