Monroe Jackson began selling donuts and pastries out of his family den while working two jobs, then opened Monroe's in Jackson in 1995. A 2003 tornado destroyed the original shop and his home; he rebuilt with a second story. By 2014 he ran four shops, baking nightly from 11 p.m. with his son Monroe Jr.
