Tommy Byrd, a 25-year woodworking veteran, and his son Thomas opened the shop in Elkins in 2016 with no prior donut-making experience, working overnight frying and morning selling until the business grew enough for Tommy to leave his day job within months. The next year they moved to the current downtown Davis Avenue storefront, which they later bought, and they added sandwiches, hot dogs and pepperoni rolls alongside the cake and yeast donuts.
